Starving yourself is a lousy weight loss tactic. You are not a Survivor contestant, so don’t subject yourself to starvation in an effort to speed up weight loss. It’s not just a matter of it being unhealthy. Eating fewer than 1,200 is counterproductive. Not only will it slow your metabolism, but you will have less energy, and as a result will tend to be more sedentary throughout the day.
Always keep your daily calorie count above 1,200 calories. Going below 1,200 calories can result in irritability, depression, nervousness, and even decreased weight-loss results. When you slash calories this drastically, your body thinks it’s starving and slows your metabolism to compensate.
Give your body the fuel it needs and the weight loss will follow—no dizziness required! If your weight-loss program calls for less than 1,200 calories per day, make sure that you clear it with your doctor first. And then get a second opinion!
Here are some more signs that your calorie count is too low: headache, weakness, light-headedness and reduced concentration levels.
