South Beach Diet Day 6 - Parties and Social Gatherings

Today's South Beach Diet Tips:

* There’s always a South Beach-friendly food choice at parties and social gatherings. Just because you choose to ignore the chicken and veggies doesn’t mean they weren’t there!

* Once you prove to yourself that you can make it through a social event without Hoovering every delectable in sight, that accomplishment will stick with you and boost your motivation.

And now, here are the details of my 6th day on the South Beach Diet...

What I Weighed Today: 196 lbs. (9am)

Big event tonight. The Concern Foundation Block Party at Paramount Studios. It was awesome. First of all, I was EXTREMELY careful about my consumption during the day because I knew that this evening would be difficult for me. "Concern" is an organization that funds grants for cancer research. The president of the organization is on the board of one of the companies I work for. I would love to work at Concern because it is extremely stable and the president is a very cool guy I know I could learn a lot from. The Block Party is an event that pretty much centers around food. You walk up and down the “streets” of the lot and there are nearly a hundred food vendors set up with booths.

What I Ate Today:
Breakfast: 3 slices Canadian Bacon, Starbucks Venti Skinny Latte (1/2 caff)
Lunch: Cucumbers, 4 oz Low-Fat String Cheese
Snack: none
Dinner: Concern Foundation event
Snack: none


Once you are in the event, food and alcohol are free. They even have a casino that gives you $100 to start you off gambling. It's unbelievable. I knew that I would have a glass of wine and I also knew that a carb might touch my lips. I was pleasantly surprised by my strength. I did have a bite of mac n' cheese and 1/4 of a nectarine but everything else was meat. And the funny thing is that the meat filled me up so well that I didn't want most of the bad stuff.

I was a little disappointed because there were some things that I wanted to try, but just couldn’t burp enough to make room for them. But all in all it was an awesome event and I don’t feel I went overboard because I planned for it and didn't lose my mind.

Every diet program I've been on so far has stressed that planning is the key. I am miles away from where I was when I first started. Earlier, not only could I not plan, but I couldn't stick to a limited diet all day when I would try to plan.

Funny, but when I improve myself, sometimes I don’t feel like me anymore. Sometimes I don't know this person I'm becoming. It's certainly not all bad being stronger but I must admit that sometimes it feels a little strange and a little lost. I hope that doesn’t affect my resolve as I get closer to my goal. I need to work on truly being comfortable with who I am becoming.
