And now, here are the details of my 8th day on NS...

What I Weighed Today: 203.2 lbs. (8am)

Woozy, Weak and Tired.

That was the headline for the message I posted on the NutriSystem online community boards today.  I really felt like crap and it was not going away.  I wanted to believe that it would pass but I also didn’t want to be stupid and wind up fainting somewhere, so decided to run it up the flagpole with some senior members.

Here is my post:

“I'm on my seventh day. All last week I felt woozy & tired. This weekend I cheated a little bit by having a couple of extra servings of string cheese and I felt "normal." But I felt guilty so today I went back strictly to plan and I feel bad again. Just a few minutes ago I felt funny so I cheated with about eight almonds and I immediately felt better. Is this normal? Should I white-knuckle through, sticking exactly to plan in the hopes my body will adjust?’

I got some great advice:

Call a counselor and go over your food plan.  They may suggest some modifications.  Some people are tired or lethargic the first few days but it shouldn't last a full week.

Try spacing your foods out. I can't eat when I first wake up because I have a weak stomach. Eat your breakfast entree, then an hour late, have the protein and fruit (you can sub fruit juice - 1/2 cup OJ is a fruit serving).  Same thing with lunch - eat the NS entree and either before or after the protein with a large salad or veggies.  That may help regulate your sugars better (sounds like that may be the issue for you).  Definitely call a counselor and go over what you are doing.

I get that woozy feeling if I don't space my foods out. When I started the program I tested my blood sugar when I felt that way and my blood sugar was really low. I take care of that by spacing out my food throughout the day. You will have to do some trial and error to figure out when you need to eat to feel good all day.

The best advice was to call a counselor, though.  Turns out when you pay for your food you are also paying to have 24-hour access to a team of “Weight Loss Counselors.” There doesn’t seem to be a place where these “counselor” qualifications are posted but I figured I would give it a shot and then go with my gut.  You can call, email, or instant message a counselor online.  I chose instant message so I could just paste my online posting in and see what response I got.

The counselor (Aimee) immediately assured me that at no time should I have been feeling that way on the program.  She suggested spreading the components of the meals out and she said that I should add an extra protein serving and an extra fruit.  I had assumed this program was completely inflexible but I guess I was wrong.  I hope this works because I can’t keep feeling like this.

What I Ate Today:
Breakfast: NS Apple Strudel Scone, 1 Babybel Light Cheese, 4 cups Coffee w/8 tablespoons Fat-Free Creamer & 4 tablespoons Sugar-Free Hazelnut syrup – 230 calories
Lunch: NS Beans & Ham Soup, 1 oz. Low-Fat Cheddar Cheese, 2 cups Red Bell Peppers – 286 calories
Snack: 1 apple, 1 nonfat Yogurt, 8 almonds  – 190.6 calories
Dinner: NS Tender Beef w/Vegetables, 3 cups Mixed Steamed Vegetables,  2 tablespoons Light I-Can’t-Believe-It’s-Not-Butter , 2oz. Low-Fat String Cheese   – 588.3 calories
Dessert: Nothing

Sexual Activity, 45 minutes

*On a quick final note, I know you’ve noticed that my exercise today was sexual activity.  It was not my choice to count that.  It is in the NutriSytem exercise log and there is a drop-down list of intensity levels to choose from.  Good Lord!! I hadn’t done anything else yesterday so I counted those burned calories.  Interesting part was that I could barely get through work today but I managed to participate in a 45-minute romp at 11 p.m.  Will wonders never cease?

Product Reviews:
* NS Apple Strudel Scone  – 160 calories
WTF?! Dry, cardboard, chewy, and left a slightly chemical aftertaste.  Positives: helped me get through my entire first 1liter bottle of water for the day.
* NS Beans & Ham Soup  – 180 calories
This one I like.  Hearty taste, good amount of beans and ham.  Very satisfying and filling.
* NS Tender Beef w/Vegetables – 280 calories
Another good one.  2 decent entrées in 1 day.  I must have done something right.
