Starvation Diets Slow Your Metabolism

Starving Yourself Is a Lousy Weight Loss Tactic

Always keep your daily calorie count above 1,200 calories. Going below 1,200 calories can result in irritability, depression, nervousness, and even decreased weight-loss results. When you slash calories this drastically, your body thinks it’s starving and slows your metabolism to compensate.

You are not a Survivor contestant, so don’t subject yourself to starvation in an effort to speed up weight loss.  It’s not just a matter of it being unhealthy.  Eating fewer than 1,200 is counterproductive.  Not only will it slow your metabolism, but you will have less energy, and as a result will tend to be more sedentary throughout the day.

Give your body the fuel it needs and the weight loss will follow—no dizziness required!  If your weight-loss program calls for less than 1,200 calories per day, make sure that you clear it with your doctor first.  And then get a second opinion!

Here are some more signs that your calorie count is too low: headache, weakness, light-headedness and reduced concentration levels.
