Eat Before Working Out
Work Harder Longer
30 - 45 minutes before exercise, have a small serving of veggies or half of an energy bar to keep your energy up during your workout. Studies show that people who have a snack of complex carbohydrates are able to work out longer and harder, and thus burn more calories.
The best pre-workout carbs are low-calorie and easily digestible. Some good picks: a small/medium apple, ¾ cup yogurt with ½ cup blueberries, a plum, ½ cup trail mix, or a slice of whole-wheat toast.
If you choose an energy bar, read the label first. If it’s over 200 calories, break it in half. Keep your snack under 150 calories. You don’t want to have to spend your whole work-out burning off your pre-workout snack!
Always stay away from so-called energy bars that are chock full of sugar. Instead, try a “Nutz Over Chocolate” Luna bar or a Kashi chewy granola bar
