Airline Food Is Not Diet Friendly
Fly the diet-friendly skies
Airline food may not taste very good, but what really adds insult to injury is that it’s notoriously fat-laden. But there are steps you can take to keep your flight’s calorie intake from soaring into the stratosphere.
When purchasing an airline ticket, request a low-fat, low-cal, or vegetarian meal. Bonus: Because you ordered a special meal, you’ll get served first.
Dietdetective.com recently released a list of airlines with the healthiest fare. At the top of the list were Continental and American Airlines, so dieters should consider booking their ticket with these companies when planning a long plane trip.
Pass on the peanuts and cookies (assuming your airline is still providing them amidst the cutbacks!). Instead, it’s best to bring your own snacks onboard. A granola bar and a piece of fruit should do the trick.
If your flight’s been delayed and you’re forced to eat from an airport restaurant, here are some low-cal options: Panda Express Mushroom Chicken with Vegetables (180 calories) or McDonald’s Grilled Chipotle BBQ Snack Wrap (260 calories).
