Eat Nuts Every Day

Go Nuts!

Walnuts are a great source of protein and fiber, and on the South Beach Diet, they aren’t considered “evil.” Because South Beach allows you a unique nut and seed allotment, make it a goal to have up to 15 of these hunger-curbing nuts a day.

An exception to the 15-nut rule: pistachios (you can have 30), peanuts (enjoy up to 20), and hazelnuts (25 is the maximum).

In a study in the International Journal of Obesity, subjects who ate almonds every day lost 18 percent of weight and body mass index compared with 11 percent in the nut-less group—even though they were taking in the same number of daily calories. Almonds are high in protein, fiber, and monounsaturated fat, so they keep you feeling full. Just make sure you adhere strictly to South Beach’s nut portion guidelines; an ounce of almonds has about 160 calories, so noshing these snacks all day long won’t do your waistline any favors.

Walnuts

Walnuts are also a great source of healthy fat. Believe it or not we do need some healthy fats in our diets. Another great source comes from avocados.
