Weight Watchers
To be fair, I should tell you that I have never actually been to a Weight Watchers meeting. I have only followed their point counting system.
That said, I think the weekly weigh-ins and support system of Weight Watchers is a great idea. I also like the freedom to choose what foods to eat using their point system. However, I don’t think that Weight Watchers achieves long term weight loss for most participants.
Weight Watchers has two big problems. First, it is based on a low fat, high carb diet. This type of diet does not eliminate your carb cravings, so you are more likely to cave to those chips and cookies. Secondly, you have to keep paying to go to the meetings. That makes the dieter be in a hurry to complete their diet. This goes against my #1 and #2 tips - that you must be on a diet the rest of your life, and take it slow.
Challenge: If you are a WW fan...try incorporating low glycemic / low carb foods into your WW diet for just two weeks. Elminate all sugar and refined carbs from your diet. Refer to my South Beach diet Phase 1 simple rules and the gylcemic list on this site for help, selecting only low glycemic foods. You will feel less hungry and your cravings for sweets and carbs will stop.
Hint: you can calculate points by looking at the nutrition facts label and using a simple algebra formula.
